The ILT20 2026 points table opens on Saturday 21 November, so all six teams start level on zero points. Each side plays 10 league games, earns 2 points for a win and 1 for a no result, and the top four after 30 matches reach the playoffs. When teams finish on the same points, net run rate decides the order. Last season Desert Vipers topped the table with 16 points and went on to win the title. How Points Are Given in the ILT20

A win is worth 2 points and a loss gets you nothing. If rain or bad light stops a game and there’s no result, both teams take 1 point each. A tied match doesn’t stay tied. It goes to a Super Over, so one side always walks away with the 2 points.

Every team plays 10 league games, two against each of the other five. That means 20 points is the most anyone can collect. Last season the defending champions topped the table with 16.

How Net Run Rate Works

Net run rate is the number that separates teams on the same points. It compares how fast a team scores runs with how fast its opponents score against it, across the whole season.

The formula is simple once you see it.

NRR = (total runs scored ÷ total overs faced) minus (total runs conceded ÷ total overs bowled)

Take an example. A team scores 180 in its 20 overs, which is a run rate of 9.00. The opponent replies with 160 in 20 overs, a run rate of 8.00. The winning side’s NRR from that game is 9.00 minus 8.00, which comes to +1.000. The losing side gets −1.000.

A few rules catch people out.

  • Bowled out early still counts as 20 overs. If a team is all out for 120 in 15 overs, its run rate is worked out over the full 20, so it’s 6.00 and not 8.00.
  • Overs are counted in balls. 18.3 overs means 18 overs and 3 balls, which is 18.5 overs in the maths.
  • It’s a season total. The league adds up all runs and all overs across every game, then works out one figure. It doesn’t average each match’s NRR.
  • Rain shortened games use the revised target and overs set under the DLS method.

This is why a big win matters so much late in the season. In 2024, MI Emirates and Gulf Giants both finished on 12 points, and MI Emirates took top spot thanks to an NRR of +1.469.

How Many Teams Qualify for the Playoffs

The top four go through. First and second meet in Qualifier 1, and the winner goes straight to the final. Third and fourth play the Eliminator, where the loser goes home. The loser of Qualifier 1 then gets a second chance against the Eliminator winner in Qualifier 2.

How many points do you need? In most seasons 10 points has been enough. Dubai Capitals got through on 9 in 2023, and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders sneaked in with just 8 in 2025 to 2026, which shows how tight the bottom half can be.

What the Past Tables Tell Us About Season 5

Desert Vipers have finished in the top two in three of four seasons, and with Babar Azam and Fakhar Zaman now in the squad they’ll be hard to keep out of Qualifier 1. MI Emirates have never missed the top four. Gulf Giants and Sharjah Warriorz finished in the bottom two last time, which is why both went big on who they signed at the auction. Keep an eye on the top run scorers and wicket takers as the season goes on, because the players at the top of those lists usually decide who finishes in the top four.
