Mark Boucher is the new head coach of MI Emirates for ILT20 Season 5. The former South Africa wicketkeeper was appointed on 30 September 2026, a day before the Season 5 auction in Dubai, and he replaces Robin Singh, who guided MI Emirates to the 2024 title. Boucher already knows the MI family well after coaching Mumbai Indians in the IPL and leading MI New York to the Major League Cricket title in 2025. Who Is Mark Boucher?
Boucher is one of the greatest wicketkeepers the game has produced. He played 147 Tests, 295 ODIs and 25 T20Is for South Africa and finished with 999 international dismissals, a record for a keeper. His playing career ended in 2012 after a serious eye injury, and he moved into coaching soon after.
He coached the Titans in South Africa before taking charge of the national team in December 2019. He stayed in the job until November 2022 and then joined Mumbai Indians, which like MI Emirates is owned by Reliance Industries.

MI Emirates have been one of the most consistent teams in the ILT20. They have reached the playoffs every season, won the title in 2024 and lost last season’s final to Desert Vipers by 46 runs. Robin Singh was in charge for the 2024 win, and the change gives the franchise a fresh voice after coming so close to a second trophy.
The timing tells its own story. Boucher was named a day before the auction, so he arrived just in time for the most important day of the off season.
The Squad Boucher Will Coach
MI Emirates were the only team to spend their entire $1,390,000 purse. They paid a league record $380,000 for Farooqi, used a Right to Match card to keep UAE captain Muhammad Waseem for $210,000, and added Chris Jordan ($170,000), AM Ghazanfar ($150,000) and Jonny Bairstow ($80,000). Nicholas Pooran, Rashid Khan, Romario Shepherd and Sherfane Rutherford were already signed before the auction.
That gives Boucher a powerful batting order with Pooran, Bairstow and Waseem, and one of the best bowling attacks in the league with Farooqi, Jordan, Rashid and Ghazanfar. His biggest early decision may be the captaincy, because Kieron Pollard led the side last season and no captain has been named for 2026 yet.
